JANA

Audio plugins from Kuwait

We build from the circuit, and we measure what we build. Nothing ships on a description of how something is supposed to sound.

The Jana 965 plugin panel: a dark grey frame with a filter section on the left, four equaliser bands with dark grey knobs in the middle, and an output meter and fader on the right.
The Jana 965 with the 965A card in circuit: the filters, the four bands and the output stage. The deck row at the bottom shows both stock cards, the 965A lit. Rendered by our own tools; nothing in it is a photograph.

The first product

Jana 965

A console EQ deck. One frame, with its output stage and meter, and four seats for cards: each card is a whole equaliser. Two cards come with it, both circuit models: the 965A, our own design, and the J15 card for Jana 965, a five-band parametric equaliser. Zero latency. Planned for macOS and Windows, as VST3, AU and AAX. It will be $59 at release, one price for everyone, with free updates for life.

Announced · Release date to be announced

From release, the trial is the whole plugin, with both cards and no time limit, and buying it brings your settings back.

Measured on the plugin

This is one measurement of the Jana 965. Each card's page has more, with the settings and the numbers under every figure.

One mid band at six gains: proportional-Q, boost the mirror of cut. Gain in dB against frequency, 20 Hz to 20 kHz. The values are in the table below.−20−100+10+2020 Hz501002005001k2k5k10k20kdB
One mid band of the 965A at six gains, boost and cut. Measured on the plugin itself: an impulse through the 965’s release candidate at 48 kHz, offline, VAR 0. Nothing in this figure is drawn by hand or taken from a design curve.

The method

A circuit first. Everything we make starts from a circuit. A circuit model takes one real circuit with real parts, one we drew ourselves or one taken from a published schematic, and solves it part by part with our own toolchain; it is not fitted to a curve after the fact. A first-principles design is built by us from the mathematics of how a kind of circuit behaves, rather than from one unit's parts list.

Measured, then believed. A claim from a model is a hypothesis until it is measured. Every response, range and printed value is checked against the circuit or the mathematics it came from before it reaches a product.

One meaning per printed value. What the panel prints is what the model does. A number on the front is a promise about the thing behind it, and we would rather change the design than break that promise.

Deterministic tools, generated artefacts. Nothing we ship is hand-edited. Every build comes out of a tool that produces the same result twice, and that includes this website.
